Behind the Tub: Material Matters
A Spotlight on Our Acrylic Process
At Hydro Systems, the integrity of our craftsmanship and quality of our materials runs deep and stands the test of time. One of the ways we are most easily able to see this is by looking closely at the manufacturing process of a Hydro Systems alcove acrylic tub.
Our alcove acrylic tubs boast modern, clean-edge designs that have always been a stand-out feature from other manufacturers whose tubs have rounded edges and outdated skirt designs. Beyond the aesthetics, there is more that goes behind the making of this tub.
We wanted to take a moment to look beneath the surface and explain how important manufacturing and materials are to the high standards of these tubs. At Hydro Systems, the integrity of our craftsmanship and the quality of our materials runs deep and stands the test of time.
Beneath the surface
Quality runs deep in Hydro Systems Acrylic Tubs
At first glance, there are a number of acrylic tubs from nearly all manufacturers that appear stylish and seemingly perfect for a dream bathroom. But for many manufacturers, acrylic – an appealing surface – conceals poor craftsmanship and low-quality materials. Often, it is only after the tub is installed that the flaws begin to appear in the form of stains, sags, bounce, deterioration, and leaks.
What makes Hydro Systems acrylic tubs superior?
Exceptional Materials
We start with deep, lustrous acrylic sheets made in the US from the highest quality components. Our exclusive formula resin combined with superior quality American-made acrylic produces leading-edge heat reflectivity, structural integrity, and dimensional stability. This results in durable quality that far outlasts tubs manufactured from acrylic made overseas that stains, degrades, and loses its luster over time.
Water-tight construction
Layer after layer of fiberglass goes into our tubs, ensuring durability and providing both sound and temperature insulation.
A solid foundation
Our solid, encapsulated support system prevents sags. We provide a runner that stabilizes the acrylic skirt, ensuring that the grout line is level and ensuring installation is fast and easy.
Where other manufacturers go wrong
Particle board beneath fiberglass
Some manufacturers start with particle board underneath a thin fiberglass layer, leaving the tub vulnerable to swelling and leaks. The bottom of the tub can become spongy, causing it to buckle. That will never happen with a Hydro Systems tub.
Low quality metal supports
Many manufacturers use low-quality, brittle, rust-prone pot metal supports. These flimsy legs make level installation difficult and when they inevitably give out due to rust, the acrylic sags
