INSPIRATION | The Jefferson Memorial was built between 1939 and 1943 under the sponsorship of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Situated along the shore of the Potomoc River, the neoclassical memorial is a pantheon-inspired structure constructed from marble. From its circular dome to the inscribed excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, the Jefferson Memorial continues to move its many visitors as a suitably iconic tribute to the Founding Fathers of the United States.
