A Spacious, Spa-Like Bath Redesign by Kitchen Places

Redesigning a primary bath space for a client, designer Crickett Kinser of Ventura, California’s Kitchen Places had two watchwords for her concept: spacious and spa-like. The clients’ Ojai, California home is nestled in nature and Kinser wanted to incorporate natural elements into her design, as well.

To achieve spa-like serenity, she selected pure white countertops and white for the dramatic, sculptural stand-alone tub: the Marquis by Hydro Systems. The organic curves of the tub bring a soft, welcoming presence to the space with contemporary elegance. The matte black hardware throughout the space provides contrast. Kinser brought in earthy elements such as natural stone tile floors, light wood cabinets, and a wooden bath stool that doubles a table for candles, towels, and other bath amenities. A highlight of the design is the “zen wall” along the side of the shower. Filled with low-light plants and flat stones, the wall doubles as a self-draining planter. The textured stone surface of the zen wall is juxtaposed with the dark large-format tiles on the shower wall, resulting in a sleek, sophisticated design.

The fluid lines of the Marquis tub and the angular approach to the shower area balance each other perfectly in this meditative, nature-inspired remodel.
